Music & Sound Effects

Here are some great free resources for Creative Commons and royalty-free music and sound effects. There are also some excellent programs and sites for creating your own audio.

It is important to remind students that commercial music they may have purchased via iTunes or other sources CANNOT be legally used in videos that will be shared online. Record labels are clear that your purchase only licenses personal use of music, but sharing is a violation of copyright. Fair use could apply to some uses if the media usage falls within the criteria. Again, projects like book trailers provide a great opportunity to raise awareness of issues of intellectual property and digital citizenship with students.
